Douglas Panzer is a technology and intellectual property lawyer. Doug serves businesses that design, develop or deliver software, e-commerce, cloud and information technology products and services - helping those businesses to: efficiently engage in the business of selling or licensing those products and services; protect their innovations; and to maintain their competitive advantage.
Doug also represents businesses that buy or license software or information technology services, employing his years of experience as a lead software developer and consultant to guide those companies in cost-effectively obtaining those products and services, minimize risk and maximize retention of intellectual property through the development of a business-driven intellectual property strategy. Further still, Doug is experienced in representing businesses and individuals in matters relating to copyright registration, licensing and enforcement, trademark protection and rights inherent in published works such as rights of publicity and privacy.
Douglas graduated from Washington & Lee University with undergraduate degrees in Economics and Computer Science. During the Dot Com era Douglas was a software and e-commerce developer to large enterprises and small companies alike across North America. Initially a software developer writing code in C++ and Java, among other programming languages, the scope of Doug's role quickly expanded to include leading development teams and assisting clients' business and technology stakeholders in translating requirements to successful, technical implementations. In this latter role, Doug was the liaison between the server room and the boardroom. He demonstrated the ability to understand the needs of both business and technical teams and to support or lead the design and implementation of solutions advancing the goals of both. Having distinguished himself in this dual business and technical post, Doug was named a BroadVision Rising Star in 2000 and was a member of BroadVision's Team of the Year the same year.
Doug attended American University Washington College of Law as an evening student while continuing his technology career. Upon earning his juris doctor degree Douglas joined a nationally-recognized intellectual property boutique law firm. During his years of legal service, Doug has developed a practice that provides unique efficiency and informed guidance to businesses that sell, implement or consume technology products and services and to businesses in a broad range of industries that develop innovative technologies.
Doug assists his clients through the drafting, review and negotiation of agreements related to software development and licensing, information technology services, intellectual property protection and corporate IP policies. He has served his clients in varied transactional dealings, litigation and intellectual property protection and strategy matters. Doug employs an innovative methodology in guiding clients in the analysis of intellectual property opportunities within the competitive landscape, allowing business and technical stakeholders to fully engage in the process, thereby ensuring that he provides value to clients through his legal services with the sole focus of aiding those clients toward their business goals.
Douglas serves on the Dean's Advisory Council of American University Washington College of Law. He was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2010 and 2011.
